Bruce is a suburb of Belconnen located 400m to the south of Lake Ginninderra, a short walk from Eastern Valley Way Inlet. The views from Gossan Hill Nature Reserve over Bruce towards Lake Ginninderra are very scenic. Access to the Reserve and Bruce from Lake Ginninderra is via the Centenary Trail and the Belconnen Bikeway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bruce was gazetted as a suburb name in 1968 and commemorates the achievements of Viscount Bruce of Melbourne PC, CH, MC (Stanley Melbourne Bruce 1883-1967). From 1923 until 1929 Viscount Bruce was Australia\u2019s Prime Minister. In 1933 for a period of thirteen years he carried out the duties of Commissioner for Australian in London. On his return to Australia in 1951 he was appointed Chancellor of the Australian National University and carried out those duties for the next ten years. Viscount Bruce was also given recognition in 1947 for his representation of Australia in the War Cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adjacent to the suburb of Bruce is the Aikman Drive Precinct to the north, University of Canberra to the north east, Gossan Hill nature Reserve to the east and the suburb of Emu Ridge to the west. Emu Ridge and the Belconnen Oval is accessible via pedestrian path underneath Eastern Valley Way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
