McKellar

McKellar is the northern most suburb above Lake Ginninderra. McKellar features the McKellar Oval in the centre and has panoramic prospect from Mount Ainslie to Black Mountain and Mount Majura. The views from McKellar of Lake Ginninderra are some of the best in the surrounding area with a sweeping 180 degree view from east to west.

McKellar is named after Gerald Colin McKellar (1903-70) who was a Member of the Senate from 1958-70. He was also Chairman of Committees and Deputy President of the Senate from 1952-64 and Minister for Repatriation from 1964-70. Streets in McKellar are named after journalists of the era.

McKellar has pedestrian access to Lake Ginninderra and Ginninderra Creek via two underneath passes of Gundaroo Drive to its east. The first is located just north of Ginninderra Drive with access to the Lake and Ginninderra Bridge, while the second is south of Baldwin Drive with access to Ginninderra Creek and the beginning of the lake. The former Naval Transmitting Station can also be seen from that end of the lake. To the west of McKellar, on William Webb Drive near Croke Place there is access to the Evatt Wetlands. Traffic lights at either end of Ginninderra Drive at William Webb and Gundaroo Drives provides direct access to Lake Ginninderra’s Northern Peninsula.
