Virtual Presentation Week

Due to the COVID-19 Virus restrictions, the Ginninderra Athletics Committee resolved to postpone our Annual General Meeting, which was to be held on 28 March 20, to a date to be determined.

The committee will be in touch with the parents of children who have won awards to arrange a suitable time for collection or drop off of the trophies.

In these unprecedented times, please stay safe, minimise personal contact, practice effective hygiene and be mindful of others.

Virtual Presentation Week

Due to our presentation day being cancelled we have decided that we will post the award recipients over the next few days to celebrate their achievements. We will post two of our perpetual trophy winners each day and then on Thursday we will post all of our Age Champion and most improved winners.

So keep checking back here over the next few days to help us celebrate our virtual presentation week!

Rohan Robinson Hurdler’s Trophy

This trophy was donated by Australian Champion 400m hurdler Rohan Robinson, it is awarded to the Little athlete (u8 to u17’s) who achieves the best hurdles performance relative to the start of season age group record at a standard Ginninderra Athletics meet at Charnwood oval.

The 19/20 winner of the Rohan Robinson Trophy is Chelsea Kelly from the u11 girls.

Congratulations Chelsea.

Junior Coach of the Year

This is awarded to a Junior coach who assisted the club during the season. This award is chosen by the Junior Coach coordinator.

This season the award goes to Andy Camp Liddiard.

This is Andy’s second year as a Junior Coach, and in his time with the programme he has shown himself to be one of the most engaged, caring and willing JCs the club has.

Andy nails his role each and every week with an obvious care for every tot that comes through. It is his dedication, attitude and willingness to be involved that has made him Junior Coach of the Year for the 2019-20 season.

Brendon Reading Walker’s Trophy

This trophy was donated by Australian Champion Race Walker Brendon Reading, it is awarded to the Little athlete (u8 to u17’s) who achieves the best walks performance relative to the start of season age group record at a standard Ginninderra Athletics meet at Charnwood oval.

The 19/20 winner of the Brendon Reading Trophy is Hannah Imhoff from the u8 girls.

Ron Henderson Memorial Shield

This award is for the athlete showing most effort at training, as decided by the Club Coaches.

The 19/20 winner of the Ron Henderson Trophy is Xanthe Pick from the u13 girls.

Xanthe was nominated for this award by 2 out of our 3 club coaches. They picked Xanthe because she listens, applies what she’s heard, and tries to do her best at every training session. Xanthe represented the ACT at cross country in a very competitive age group for distance running this Winter past and at the LA Multis, won the 800m while not feeling terribly well. She has lowered her PB for that event several times this season.

Congratulations Xanthe.

Goldsmith Trophy

This award goes to the athlete providing most help and support to the club regardless of ability. The award is decided by the Committee on the basis of nominations by age marshals or members.

This season the award goes to Emily Henderson-Allard.

Emily is a hard-working individual who contributes with heart and soul to Ginninderra in a way beyond her age. Emily arrives early each week, helps set up including preparing baskets for age mangers, setting up the canteen and helping with grounds set up, pack up and doing any and all tasks she can to help.

Each week she volunteers her time assisting with Tiny Tots and shows admirable leadership, warmth, guidance and support to our most junior members of the club. Emily’s friendliness and kindness as well as her go to attitude helps provide a positive atmosphere and direction for others in the club.

Emily demonstrates the values of commitment, leadership (amazing in someone so young), inclusion, friendliness, support, passion and creativity.

Colman Trophy – Boy

This award is awarded to both a boy and girl athlete who most epitomise the meaning of the Club, i.e. Family, Fun and Fitness. This awards is decided by the Committee on the basis of nominations from age marshals or members.

This season the boys award goes Hayden Todd.

Hayden has an infectious joy of athletics. He can always be seen putting in 100% in everything he does, and yet he still takes time to talk to other athletes young and old. He cheers on every member of the club, and members of many other clubs. He enjoys healthy rivalries with other athletes, and encourages others to excel regardless of skill or chosen event.

Hayden is a prime example of the sort of athlete Ginninderra wants to have, and the ‘family, fun and fitness’ approach we take to athletics.

President’s Shield

This shield was introduced by Geoff Bartley (President 2010-11). It is awarded to a non-Committee member of the GAC community to recognise assistance provided to the Club throughout the season.

This year’s recipient of the Presidents Shield is Jordan Green.

Jordan has made the Ginninderra Tigers his athletics family and embraced family, fun, fitness and volunteering, he has made a dedicated and sustained commitment to the club.

He was a regular on our setup crew early Saturday mornings, even though he lives southside and doesn’t have kids yet.

He supported the Junior coach coordinator, filling in when Luke was away and mentoring many of our up and coming coaches and junior leaders.

He maintained and continued his accreditation in coaching and officiating and volunteered at a number of our association fixtures.

Jordan also competed as an open Tiger athlete at Charnwood and during the Athletics ACT season. His support and encouragement for his fellow tigers was always on display, even when injured, this year his continued improvement in athletics saw him take home a number of medals at the State Championships.

Congratulations to a worthy Tiger.

Jennie Dean Trophy – Boy

This award is awarded to a male and female senior athlete who have excelled over the years at Ginninderra Athletics and Association Competitions.

This season the award boys award goes to James Lemon.

His dedication and perseverance, his distance coach predicts, will take him a long way in the world of competitive athletics.
